Building a sustainable studio

Every part of the renovation has had sustainability as a driving factor. We've repurposed the old wooden bank floor and turned it into a beautiful basket weave. The studio and cafe is painted with non toxic limewash paint. The cafe island, fireplaces, hearths, light fittings and even studio equipment cupboards are all reclaimed from Moxey strip outs elsewhere and saved from landfill.

Coffee Suppliers

We are very excited to bring the brilliant Redemption Roasters Coffee to the South Coast. Redemption Roasters mission is to reduce reoffending through coffee. They have set up a roastery in HMS Mount to employ prisoners and teach them practical skills in coffee roasting, production and logistics. They also run barista academies

Brands

We have hand selected the brands to work with who have the same sustainable ethos as us. We are thrilled to be the only HunzaG shop outside London and their signature crinkle is made with no deadstock fabric or wastage. What's more their one size stance is not only an effort to remain an inclusive brand, but also reduces the risk of over-purchased sizing on a commercial level. We only stock Manduka mats in the studio which have a lifetime guarantee and are made from natural tree rubber. We're also proud stockists of Daluma, who create beautiful sustainable products.

Packaging

It was extremely important to us that our takeaway offering did not contribute to landfill so all of our bowl are either dishwashable or recyclable. We also give a free Huskee Cup to all our members and encourage them to use this rather than paper cups in the cafe. The Huskee Cup itself is a great concept as it's made from coffee husks so fully sustainable and also recycled at the end of it's life so we're very excited to partner with them.

Power

The building operates at 46% renewables due to our huge investment in solar panels on the Sustudio roof. We have no less than 14 solar panels which will be used to generate power throughout the daylight hours at Sustudio.

Food

Everything is made from scratch at our premises. We rotate the menu seasonally to avoid importing and keep our dishes versatile to avoid wastage. As far as possible we source our food locally from farms and small suppliers.

Planting

The studio has been built around a rescued Palm Tree. Around the Palmtree we've planted other tropical plants that thrive indoors creating our own oasis. Many of these plants have been propagated ourselves and we've even installed a water but inside which collects rainwater through a hose system to water the indoor plants.

Collaborative Effort

We see this Sustudio project as a group effort. So many people have been involved along the way from our amazing workmen on site, to our investors to friends and family picking up the pieces. We want to inspire as many people as possible in our community to live healthily and explore new things. We offer mindfulness classes and many treatments and will offer our members workshops too. We encourage local businesses to join us and inspire their staff leave their desks at lunch and do something that will set them up for the rest of the working day.
